Children in Need - Appeal Night - 17th November
BBC Children in Need is the BBC's UK corporate charity. Thanks to the support of the public, they are able to make a real difference to the lives of children all across the UK.
So far you have helped to raise over £800 million and you never cease to amaze us with your fabulous fundraising events and generous donations. However, there are still so many children that need your help.
BBC Children in Need’s vision is that every child in the UK has a childhood which is: Safe Happy and Secure Allows them the chance to reach their potential
The BBC Children in Need Appeal Night takes place tonight. The Appeal show is a whole evening of entertainment on BBC One with celebrities singing, dancing, and doing all sorts of crazy things to help raise money.
There are also plenty of one-off specials of your favourite programmes, which in the past have included Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing, The One Show, EastEnders and much more!
Before we get to BBC Children in Need Appeal night, there is plenty going on around the UK. You can get lots of tips and ideas on how to get involved, including how to organise an activity in your local area, or there is plenty of fun stuff going on for you to take part in so there's something for everyone.
Sir Terry's Legacy As Life President of BBC Children in Need, Sir Terry Wogan made a real impact upon millions of young lives across the UK.
As someone so deeply invested in the Charity, he personified everything BBC Children in Need aims to achieve; that children and young people have a safe, happy and secure childhood, with the chance to reach their full potential.
No matter where you live in the UK, you won’t have to go far to see his impact. With over £800 million raised while at the helm of the Charity, Sir Terry’s work has changed lives from Shetland to Jersey. Since it was launched BBC Children in Need has supported tens of thousands of projects, each working to change disadvantaged young lives. From those living with disability or illness, through to those facing bereavement, poverty, abuse or neglect, Sir Terry’s work and your donations have made – and will continue to make – a real difference.
Sir Terry leaves behind a great legacy, and one we will continue to safeguard. Whether having invited him into our homes via our televisions and radios, or working with him first-hand, we are all fortunate to have known Sir Terry Wogan and we will work hard to continue his memory.
Pudsey Bear Pudsey Bear made his television debut in 1985 when Terry introduced the new, brown cuddly mascot to the audience.
He was designed by Joanna Ball, a BBC graphics designer, who named him after the West Yorkshire town where she was born. He proved very popular and returned as BBC Children in Need's official logo the following year with his design amended to that of a yellow bear with a red spotted bandage.
In the two decades which have followed, Pudsey has received letters, drawings and e-mails from youngsters all over the UK and been photographed with more celebrities than he can remember.
Apart from a party hat worn in 2004 to celebrate the telethon's silver jubilee, Pudsey has remained very much the same. But a 2007 revamp gave Pudsey a fresh new look and brighter colours in time for the 28th annual BBC Children in Need Appeal.
